If you think you can or you think you can not…… you’re right. (Henry Ford).
Studies show that our immune system is a reflection of our mental states and thoughts.
The brain controls and runs each and every cell throughout the whole body. The body can not think, only the mind can. The body follows whatever the mind accepts or perceives as reality, therefore the body must do it.
In hypnosis, utilizing the proper suggestion and communicating with the brain through the subconscious mind, all body functions can be altered, modified, increased, decreased or inhibited.
The changes depend upon needs and desires of the client and then applied to a specific problem or concern.
The main objective of hypnosis is to teach a client how to alleviate unwanted and unnecessary fear, tension and anxiety associated with pain and teach a client to elevate their personal pain threshold through the techniques of guided imagery and visualization.
By doing so we are retraining the brain how to process the pain signals before they reach the command center and activate the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system to trigger the relaxation response and overwrite the fight or flight action of the sympathetic side.
Tension is a learned response to ward off or fight back against pain. When we experience pain we tend to tense up and stiffen, tighten our muscles and exacerbate the pain.
Anxiety naturally follows tension in the pain experience. With tense muscles and a heightened sense of awareness or acuity of pain stimuli, we tend to become more anxious, which intensifies the pain.
Fear is the most insidious of the three components of pain. The learned fear of anticipated pain can be carried over into adulthood in the form of exaggerated fear to anticipated fear experiences.
Within our system we have naturally produced bio-chemical messengers to the cells called endorphins. This natural opiate sometimes becomes obstructed by our thoughts and feelings of tension, anxiety and fear.
By utilizing hypnosis techniques we learn to remain relaxed and carry a positive attitude which allows the endorphins to flow naturally;therefore, lessening the experience of pain and boosting the immune system response.
Through the therapeutic approach of hypnosis we can learn how to break the pain contributing cycle of tension, anxiety and fear and significantly reduce the subjective experience of pain.
Secondary objectives would include:
Less pain medication – alleviating dependency
Becoming in control over pain through visualization and relaxation
Reduce emotional stress, related to pain
Mind/Body healing, establishing positive thinking breeds more rapid recovery
Helping the client understand the root cause of the pain and secondary gains associated with the pain
